here's wat the narnia personality quiz says about me:

As Lucy Pevensie, you may be quite timid and shy, but your heart is in the right place! You make sure you tell the truth, even if it results in embarrassment.

hmmm mostly true.. keke

Tuesday, May 17, 2005

hmmm today was a lousy day.
1. missed my alarm's ringing,
2. sis snagged the bathroom away,
3. missed the bus,
4. caught in drizzle,
5. struggled on slippery floors,
6. found the water cooler (which i depend v much on in office hours) broken down,
7. had to go to another level to get not-so-clean-water (i suspect),
8. got deprived of the usage of my laptop which i borrowed,
9. Vied with a fellow colleague over hte use of a common PC for an entire day,
10. din have breakfast, lunch and almost dinner, and 3 most importantly(s)
11. blew my cover off when my NTU tutor realised how lousy i was at my work,
12. got piled with additional research work to do (i HATE to and CANT do research),
13. got piled with additional thermodynamics calculations to do (i HATE to and CANT do thermodynamics -- i scraped past my first thermo module but in for the second, got an F i believe)....

i'm juz glad its over.

but! come to think of it, in teh same breath i can say today's a good day cuz

1.woke up on time (despite being deaf to the ringing of the alarm) (by the rumble of my sister's trolley on the floor when she came back from a flight),
2. was juz SLIGHTLY later than my usual lateness (yesh i'm late EVERYDAY) despite missing the bus,
3. drizzle was juz tat: drizzle and not pouring rain,
4. managed to stay upright on slippery floors,
5. managed to write a bit of my report and log books even tho i din have exclusive usage to a PC,
6. realised that i only have 1 week left to do my report instead of realising it later and htus having lesser time to do it,
7. was supplied with 2 delicious cookies by (another of) my colleague which later became my breakfast (the cookies, not my colleague) (and was supposed to be my lunch as well but strangely eventually there was no need for it.. i wasnt hungry),
8. managed to settle dinner at home,
9. managed to spend not a single cent today, AND
10. saw my tutor for the last significant time in the capacity of the IA student under his care (WOOHOO)(i really dread his visits to the company everytime)!

hmmmmmm 3 more bad htings than good ones.

but still,

GOD IS GOOD!

oh btw God, please show me the way to write my report...and yeah i'm sure You will.

You Are 35% Normal

(Occasionally Normal)

You sure do march to your own beat...

But you're so weird, people wonder if it's a beat at all

You think on a totally different wavelength

And it's often a chore to get people to understand you

hahahaa........

The Keys to Your Heart

You are attracted to obedience and warmth.

In love, you feel the most alive when your partner is patient and never willing to give up on you.

You'd like to your lover to think you are stylish and alluring.

You would be forced to break up with someone who was emotional, moody, and difficult to please.

Your ideal relationship is open. Both of you can talk about everything... no secrets.

Your risk of cheating is zero. You care about society and morality. You would never break a commitment.

You think of marriage as something that will confine you. You are afraid of marriage.

In this moment, you think of love as commitment. Love only works when both people are totally devoted.

hmm.. not sure about the forced to break up w moody etc pp. teh 2nd last point is totally not true of me, but the rest are v true.. qte impressed..
hmm but the questions in the quiz were really irrelevant.. cant see how my answers to the qns wld lead to the results.
nobody is to decide for me who i am... except myself.

copied (and modified) from angelus's blog:

Was browsing through the net and came across this interesting post in the forum...
" I've been a mac user for 19 years now, and have heard (probably) all the arguments for and against each platform. Here's my take on some of them.

The mac is easier to learn.
Used to be so true, that it kept many power users away, because they considered macs to be "toys". Todays mac can do much more than the macs of OS 6 and 7. A steeper learning curve is part of the price. At the same time PC's have learned a few things from Apple, and figured out a few things on their own, making them easier to learn and run. The gap is closer, but PC's are not there yet. Mac's are more consistant throughout the OS, and from application to application. If you learn one app., that knowledge will give you most of the basics of every other app. including the Finder. All common commands and menus will be found in the same places, and work the same way.

Macs are more stable.
More true now than ever. Back in OS 7 mac people were shouting this from the rooftops,... and lying through their teeth. Crashes were common, and even if the OS held you had to reboot when an app. crashed or froze, due to unprotected memory. Having said that, most of the unstable macs I ran across back then were suffering from owners installing silly amounts of OS hacks to do things like change the cursor, the colors, the way it booted, etc. It gave meaning to the term "personal computer" and many owners would defend the Christmas lights on their desktop, or the eyes that always followed their cursor, even if it did crash more often.
At this moment I have 3 powerbooks and an i-mac in my house, running OS 10.3.8, networked with Airport wireless, all up and running. It has been over a month since any of them was rebooted, and that was for a software install that required it, not a crash. All of these computers are used every day, and the i-mac (DV500 grey) never sleeps, as it serves i-tunes to the other computers, movies to my TV, does most of the e-mail and i-chat. Macs are more stable.

Macs are faster... PC's are faster...
All true. Macs are faster... at some things. with some software. AND PC's are faster... at some things. with some software.
If you only use your computer for one thing, take a hard look at these issues. most people I know use their computers for 50 different things, making a speed comparison out of the question. Most modern computers are fast enough for the average consumer's e-mail, surfing, book-keeping, photographs, music, DVDs etc. If you use your computer for rendering video, creating 3-D models, or serving websites, etc. you already know enough to figure out which one is faster for your purpose.
The one exception that comes to mind is games. I'm not a big game player, but those who are demand graphics speed that will tax any consumer system, so they add graphics cards and memory to make things look and work better. I am told that PCs win on this point hands down, because there are more, better, faster graphics cards made for the PC. Any Gamers want to tell me I'm right, wrong, or something else, feel free. Like I said, I'm not much of a game player.

There is more software for PCs
Go to any Fry's or Best Buy, and you will see how obvious this is. There are at least 10 times more titles for the PC. My opinion? So? There are whole isles devoted to word processing software for Windows. There are maybe half a dozen good WP titles for Mac. I have one question. How many word processing programs do you need? Me? I use two. One small and light for quick looks at read-me files and quick notes, and one "full on spellcheck in 30 languages, 5000 font, html, writes a novel in it's spare time, fat app." I can not conceive a reason for more than 3, but then most people consider me a bit slow. Another point about the PC isle, is that some of the titles only work with NT. Others only work with 95-98-whatever. That thins it out a bit.
There are good apps for the mac to cover just about anything you want to do. If there is an app. that is only PC, and you must have it, the mac solution is Virtual PC. It will run Windows 95,98,NT, and I guess, others on your mac. It works by creating a "shell" for the software to run in, the same way "Classic" works in OSX.
The often overlooked side of the coin is apps that you can only get for the Mac platform, like i-Movie, Garage Band, and i-DVD. Add the fact that they come free with the computer (along with i-Tunes, i-Photo, Appleworks, Quicken etc. and the size of the software isle becomes less important.
Note. Games are the exception here also. you do not want to play PC games on Virtual PC. Ever. You want to play them on a PC with a fast graphics card.

Mac's don't get viruses and spy-ware.
Not entirely true. but close. About a year ago I installed Norton anti-virus, and ran it on my laptop to see what it found. I got big eyed when I read it's report. over 600 viruses, trojan horses, and pieces of spy-ware were on my internal drive. A closer inspection showed that they were 99% in my junk mail folders. It sounds like a lot, but I run a couple of websites, and get about a thousand bits of junk mail a week. A detailed look at what viruses they were exactly (there were about 6 different flavors), found them all to be harmless to the Mac, unable to run in OSX. If I had that situation on a PC, it would be dead from trying to get a clock tick in and failing. I just emptied my junk, and trash. problem solved. NOTE: That doesn't mean I couldn't infect someone's PC if I sent an infected e-mail to them.
There are viruses, hacks, and spy-ware, that DO run on OSX. Not very many, but I have seen, for example, spy-ware that was cross platform.
Call it Luck, Karma, or the Lord looking out for fools, but the bottom line is, PC's are targeted, hit and hurt by these attacks on a daily basis. Macs are not.

I know 7 people who have crossed to apple from windows, and all of them are happy for the change. I know one person who gave up on macs for windows. It was 1987, and he wanted to use Auto-Cad. He is still on PC's, still thinks Macs are toys, and is happy with his decision.

When any novice computer buyer asks me which to buy, I ask what all of their friends-family have, and usually suggest the same thing. My reasoning is that no matter what system or OS you have, there are times when it will stump you, confuse you, or break on you. It's 12:26 AM, and you only know one person who will answer your call that late, for a question (or 300) about computers. What does he use? If it's the same as yours, you might just get your work done by morning. If not? Customer service opens at 9:00AM, a half hour after you should be at work. Mac or PC you are going to have questions, and need guidance every once in a while. Friends and family support is usually 24-7.

As to cost. Mac's are more expensive, up front. Two weeks after the computer purchase, when you've added to your PC all the things that come standard on the mac, it's about even. A year down the road, people who have switched say the mac has saved you time. Lots of it. It's not just the time saved with spyware, viruses, windows updates, and hackers, even though that is what you hear most.
It's this.
The hardware, the OS, and much of the software I use are all designed and built by the same company, to work together. Apple is very good at it, and it really does make a difference in the day to day world of getting things done.
Other people will say different, and they are welcome to tell me where I'm wrong, but my answer is...

Apple "
i think i have a bad habit of always speaking in riddles.. but its juz tat sometimes i dun really dare to speak plainly.. cuz i'm afraid of rejection..

hmmm our ex president Dr Wee Kim Wee juz passed away yest morning..

altho i have never seen him in person, i did have contact w him before.. i actually wrote him an mail asking to be penpals w him when i was in primary school. (i htink my teacher then was neighbours w him, so cld pass him the letter) and.. he was so nice, he actually replied back! i still rem, he told me to study hard.. but a pity i lost his letter to me (yes i lost it!!!! stupid me.. but i kept it properly in my treasure box.. dunno y it happened tho).

yepz, altho i've never seen him before, din even noe he did so much to help sg-reans, the fact that he even replied this naive, dunno-come-from-where, and bu4 zhi1 tian1 gao1 di4 hou4 (dunno sky high earth thick) little gal shows how much love and outreach he had for the common pp, no matter how small and insignificant they were.

yepz.. i htink.. thats wat i strive towards..to be able to live life in truth and love..
i juz timed my phone. it took 4 secs to open an inbox with 40 msgs. hmmmm does it mean 10 secs for 100 msgs??? somehow it ald seemed like 10 secs when i had 70. will go time again when i've got more msgs.
goodness i juz saw a nick on my contact list. it says "the new general elective: paktorlogy." gosh it makes dating seem so morbid. haha.

Monday, May 02, 2005

i feel weak... din have full meals for these 2 days. but its not that i juz feel hungry.. feel a bit dizzy as well. actually since i went to see the 3rd doc i felt much better le.. i'd say the dizzy spells are almost gone. but these 2 days i'm feeling abit of it again. hmmm. mebbe its due to stress. i hope i'll b ok by tmr~
was walking home from teh mrt tonight (about mn) and i met this guy.. he was like walking a few steps behind me.. din notice him until i saw some shadow in the corner of my eye, and turned back to find out if it was some bad guy following me.

so.. i turned back, and when i did, he took a few bigger steps to be closer to me (!!!!) and asked if i knew where block 462 is (i live in 461). was qte scared actually and i think it was kinda obvious. so i juz quickly told him where tat was in the hope that he'd juz go away quickly.

by now he was walking like 2 steps diagonally infront of me. which is qte a relief cuz it lessens the probability that he was some baddie. i mean if he really wanted to do me harm he'd have made sure he was behind, or at least beside me right?

but i was stil scared cuz he din juz go off.. apparently he din really get my directions and kept trying to locate the block. (sure or not???!) and throughout he also told me some other stuff, eg he juz came back from UK and was looking for fren who lives in block 462 (but there wasnt any UK accent in his voice...plus i asked him how come he doesnt want to call his fren to go fetch him but he juz smiled and chuckled. its either a case of ego prob or he's really baddie giving excuses for him not knowing his way!!), that i have some stuff ard my eye (which was white the first time he told me, and blue the second, duhz. k la mebbe different descriptions cuz of the lighting. but hte lighting was street lighting leh. ie orange light. hmmm), and that he tot i was affected the by stuff ard my eye cuz i kept blinking (which i dun recall doing............. ), and he even asked - twice - if i lived near!!!!!!!!! scaryz~

anwz, thank goodness i'm blogging this.. cuz it shows that im' still safe and sound. heh. in the end i made sure he walked in front of me, so that im in a safer position, and so that i can ensure he doens't see which block i head towards (he'll reach my block before reaching 462).

k la mebbe im' paranoid or wat but it was 12mn ok.. and teh route back isnt exactly teeming with people..usually there'd be no one else.. ok la it wasnt tat deserted either la as its juz next to the main road. but still its better to be safe than sorry right???? and actually this is not hte first time i juz walk home uneventful. there was one other time, a few years ago.. this security guard doing duty at the SIR building (as it was known then) stopped me and asked if we cld be frens!!! i mean duhz he looked like he was 40plus.

which brings to mind this observation.. it seems like most of the guys who look at me while i'm on the street are uncles. scaryz~!
hmm or mebbe its only cuz younger guys are more discreet in their gaze. heh.. i hope tats really the case, and not that ONLY uncles look at me. *goosebumps*

oh well.. gtg zzzzzzz...........
i'm tired of being wrong all the time....................
i never did like rollercoasters.. but well its good to be able to delay gratification.

Sunday, May 01, 2005

hmnmm i dunno if its obvious.. but im in a happy mood.

hmmm but i'm expecting a period of frequent mood swings.. from very good to very bad.. and from very bad to very good. i'm actually qte afraid actually.. afraid of the emotional torture, and afraid that i'll give up before my hopes are realised.

if anyone remembers, i sorta implied about adopting a new attitude..this is my way of protecting myself. yeah..but its so difficult to change an attitude.. oftentimes, i find myself almost lapsing into the old attitude. but if i dun persist, i'll be hurt..

hmmm but now i realised.. im' still holding on to the old attitude... cuz i'm still trying to deny alot of things that go through my head. i refuse to think about them... by this i hope things will get better..
but im' so afraid they wont.. im' juz relying on blind faith now.

actually ya to be honest things are not easy.. but i refuse to give up juz like tat, w/out even trying. and mebbe.. i can make it, and find the rainbow??? mebbe im not as weak as i imagine myself to be..

seriously i noe soemtimes im' juz so negative. but thats how i am, and i'm ald trying v hard to be more positive. if i push myself to be more positive, i htink i'll go mad. heh.

i noe i still have alot to learn, i noe at wat pace i wanna grow, and i noe wat kind of limits i have. so if anyone tries to set the limits and pace for me, i'd say to them (and i sorta have said before to some pp): "buzz off."

yeah i noe i'm defensive..but tats juz the way i am. but i do seek to improve constantly.. so guess i'll put soem tot to this trait of me sometime. but well for now i'll juz be content.

hmmm i think this entry is a bit confusing.. heh.. well folks, tats the kind of stuff that goes through my mind everyday.. i think i think alot. heh.
happy labour day!!!

its the day for us.......... who've been slogging our butts off (or otherwise heh heh) everyday in our IA company. so enjoy it!!
oh and thx to everyone who bothered to look into their music collection for me too..you're all sweetie pies.
yay!! thx shadow, for sending me Almost Here, and Breathe In... now i'm left with UNWRITTEN by ashley simpson.. anymore sweetie pies out there???????? heeez.

and while i'm at it, do tell me if you've got Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy to lend me k. wanna read it before june... heh heh heh......
